I find that most people ask about this style only because they have heard about the Famous Roll up panama hats and it is a conversation piece for them and that is fine, but it may not be as practical as you might need from a daily wear hat.

What is a panama "Special Reserve" hat?
-simply stated it is something Special Let me explain:
Years ago they used to make a hat so finely woven it looked like Fabric!
This was so unimaginably fine it was truly amazing that it ever existed!
Take a look at your finest machine woven shirt and you will have an idea of what this hat was! The masters of this art have passed away leaving behind only a hand full of these hats that are now displayed in a few museums never to be copied again. On occasion we find a specially fine hat body that comes closer to what they used to make years ago and I hold on to it and consider it as part of my "Special Reserve" These hats are not to be confused with the finest hats available to the "General Public" the "Fino Fino" that truly is a "Museum Quality" hat as some refer to it. What we have set aside as a Special Reserve is still finer woven then the Fino Fino, Very Special and literally Unavailable to the average Public!
The special reserve hat is several hundred weaves per square inch finer then the fino fino it is truly amazing that it is humanly passable to weave so small and tight of a weave and in fact it is only possible by about 5 weavers that are in their 80's and when they die this hat will be lost because the younger weavers have not learned how to weave so finely so they will become collectors items and even though some hat shops are selling this hat for as high as 10 thousand dollars right now while the hats are in very limited supply, the value will absolutely go up in few short years when this hat is no longer woven.
It is truly a work of art that should be in a museum.
The weave count on this hat is between 900 - 1200 Weaves per Inch !
So although we can not get the older generation hats, we do have something finer then the Fino Fino hat and we Call it our"Special Reserve".
