This is a crochet hand woven Cuenca hat. Made of the same type of straw of the famous "Panama hats" (Paja Toquilla).
These hats are woven with different coloration's of dyed straw that gives the hat a nice and colorful touch.
Very durable straw very resistant to rolling or crushing for the kind of crochet stitch pattern this hat uses 4 times more straw then any other panama hat!
They can be worn with or without any exterior hat band. Great quality and durability and they are ideal for wearing at the beach or any outdoor activities.

Similar a Montecristi weave and many times called a "Montecristi hat" and sold as such in the open market, but it actually isn't. It is made in Cuenca Ecuador so it is a genuine "Panama hat" but not a "Montecristi Panama hat" since it was not made in the city of Montecristi.

This Cuenca version of the "Montecristi hat" goes through the normal treatments of a Cuenca hat. The weave pattern is looser and if you hold it to the sun you will see it is a more open weave, not as air tight as a Montecristi hat. To the untrained eye it does look a lot like a Montecristi hat and in many ways even the coloration can be very similar. That doesn't make it a bad hat, it just makes it a Cuenca hat. They have their upside in price!

Cuenca Grade 4 - Similar to a Montecristi Fino Grade type of weavePlain rounded top

Snap brim on the front causing the brim to tip downward slightly and upward in the back just a little.

Too Much Brim... More Than Just Sun Protection: Larger brims tend to start looking more western, which is great for Texas! Or a Texan at heart! Large brims tend to tip downward slightly in the front and back because of their weight and be a little floppy in the wind. If you add a curl to the edge of the brim it will hold its shape much better. Even if it is just a small curled edge it will give it much more rigidness.

Brim size is a hard thing to recommend because many factors play a part in your selection, such as where you live and the culture, in addition to your personal preferences.

Too Much Brim... yeah that is what some say after receiving this one, so be sure you want this much brim! Sun protection and serious style! I would say this brim will give 180% coverage! What I mean is it will cast a shadow!

If you want it we can build it! But there is no rushing this, please be patient!

Larger Than Standard Brims: There is a charge on larger than standard brims. This is due to the time it takes the weaver to extend the brim and he will ask a bit more for his work. (Price difference is already reflected in the price shown)

We need time to make this hat for you, it will have to be specially woven since we almost never have this hat in stock, (unless you are in the stock section) it will be custom made! You will need to be very patient for this one.

Each Panama hat comes with one hat band of your choice, but you may want to include a few extra hat bands- a quick way to change the personality of your Panama hat!

Each and every Panama hat we sell is handmade right here in Ecuador, so no two hats are exactly alike.
