Montecristi hats are known for their tight weave pattern, so tight it can even hold water. If you were to turn it upside down and fill the crown up with water it would take a long time to drain out! No matter how fine the straw is or what grade of Montecristi it is, this hat has a very airtight weave pattern. Yet it is still remarkably great in the sun! The light coloration reflects light and stays cool, and because of the lightweight feel of the hat (120 grams on average) it's as though you didn't even have a hat on, it's that lightweight!

Sub-fino Panama hats are our most basic type of hat with a weave that is still of great quality, but not as tightly woven as the other grades. WPI range 80-150 Average is 120 WPI

The Classic Plantation Panama hat is known for a larger brim and great sun protection. Uses the same block as Fedora #1, but the difference is in the brim, and blocked in standard oval.

The front of the crown is 4.1" - 4.3", and the back of the crown is lower then the front measuring between 3.3" - 3.5" giving it a sloping appearance from the side profile. The height on the side is 4.1" - 4.5".

This Classic Plantation Panama hat is blocked on a semi oval hat block rather then a perfectly round one to fit better.

Snap brim on the front causing the brim to tip downward slightly and upward in the back just a little.

Beyond Serious... Sun Protection: Larger brims tend to start looking more western, which is great for Texas! Or a Texan at heart! Large brims tend to tip downward just a bit in the front and back because of their weight and can be a little floppy in the wind. If you add a curl to the edge of the brim it will hold its shape much better. Even if it is just a small curled edge it will give it much more rigidness.

Brim size is a hard thing to recommend because many factors play a part in your selection, such as where you live and the culture, in addition to your personal preferences.

Serious Sun Protection and Serious Style! Larger Than Standard Brims: I would say this brim will give 150% coverage! There is a charge on larger than standard brims. This is due to the time it takes the weaver to extend the brim and he will ask a bit more for his work. (Price difference is already reflected in the price shown)

We need time to make this hat for you, it will have to be specially woven since we almost never have this hat in stock, (unless you are in the stock section) it will be custom made! You will need to be very patient for this one.
